If you’re American, you’re good!

After seeing the ugly side of the current immigration debate (any time you have millions of people blocking traffic to march and protest, it’s no longer a civil debate), it’s refreshing to see one positive source of information in the war against immigration stereotypes. Plus, it’s sprinkled lightly with jingoism!

There’s not much there yet, but give them some unique visits with your surfing clicks to at least show a little support toward a worthy movement.

The only unfortunate thing about the site is that it is focused on Latinos. I won’t nitpick about that, but I will say that the message could be much more effective if the site covered a wide range of foreign nationalities. (Latinos aren’t the only troubled immigrants, you know.)

Also note that the site is focused on LEGAL immigrants. One point of the current immigration debate that has led to many difficult conversations with others has been the regard and treatment of illegal immigrants. I have nothing against people who have legal status here, and no one should. But I do have a problem with people with illegal status in the US. They’re breaking the law. And they’re not offcially Americans. They have human rights, but not the right to be here. They could have that right someday, if they are given legal status here. Until then, even if they’re innocent otherwise, they’re still willingly disregarding our legal resident requirements. And their status causes a complicated situation - it even puts them in danger. It’s a problem that needs to be addressed somehow, before it gets worse. And that might go a long way toward demolishing the class stereotypes of immigrants - which, at this point, may be more damaging than racial stereotypes.
