The Dog Ate Your Immigration Paperwork
Homeland Security paperwork delays weddings (Yahoo! / AP)
This is relevant to the undocumented resident immigrant problem that I’ve touched on so much here lately. I think this problem is terribly overdue for fixing, and this story illustrates a larger problem that current undocumented residents are facing. Our government facitlities for handling border security and immigrant documentation are woefully inadequate. Actually, they’re a complete joke. The system sucks, and this is not the fault of anyone trying to get into America. (Well, with the exception of drug runners. But that’s another topic altogether.)
Yes, it does cause a problem for everyone when people cross the border, find a place to settle, and find a society that marginalizes them for being poor and culturally ignorant. (We suck when it comes to that.) This problem would be much alleviated if we were a little more efficient at handling immigration processes - which means letting the good people in, keeping the bad ones out, and maintaining a high degree of efficency throughout all operations. Maybe we could help people integrate into society better if we had the same ruthlessness in the pursuit of efficiency in our government agencies that we currently have in evil Corporate America.
You can lock me up in Bellvue now. That prior sentence is clearly insane. Hell will freeze over before that happens.
If you think I’m just being pessimistic:
Homeland Security acknowledges the bureaucratic delay is “certainly an inconvenience,” said Chris Bentley
Yeah, failing to do your job and interfering with the sacred institution of marriage for our own citizens - that’s certainly inconvenient. At the very least. You’re doing a heckuva job, Bentley! Get fucked, you government mouthpiece dipshit.
