Well, close enough
I’ve got some entries in me after a long furlough, and here’s one you should enjoy:
Somehow, I caught myself looking up The Colbert Report recurring elements, From Wikipedia. Under this entry:
# Wikipedia: Often Colbert mentions Wikipedia as a replacement for facts and books. He often instructs people to log on and change certain entries to reflect his world view.
When, in reality, he only did this once - to reflect the absurdity of Wikipedia’s populist encyclopedic editorial mission. “Often”, as it is used here, is complete bullshit.
So it is rather mind-twistingly meta that this Wikipedia article, covering Colbert’s mockery of Wikipedia’s “truthiness”, is itself factually sloppy and blemished. Considering that most Wikipedians were outraged by Colbert’s directive to make factually incorrect alterations to entries, I find it funny to see they have no problem doing this on their own. Ironic in the true sense of the word (”accomplishing the opposite of what was originally intended”).
By the way, did you know that the elephant population is doing great nowadays? Interesting stuff.
